Nyesom Wike, the new Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, has sent a warning to Abuja residents whose properties violate the city’s masterplan.
Wike made this announcement on his first day in office after the president inaugurated him alongside 44 other ministers.
The former governor of Rivers State maintained that he was ready to revoke any property licence or certificate of occupancy from anyone no matter how highly placed they were.

He further threatened that he was battle-ready for anyone whose property sat on any location in the city in violation of the Abuja masterplan.
He added that his major objective was to ensure the restoration of the city to its intended urban design.
“If you know you have built where you are not supposed to build, it will go down. It will go down. Be a minister of anywhere, be an ambassador. If you have developed where you are no supposed to develop, your house must go down,” said Wike.
“Those who have taken over the green areas to build, our parks must come back, the green areas must come back. If you hate green, you must hate yourself. So, if you have anybody who is involved, that has taken over the green areas or has taken over the parks, to where you now do restaurants, we will not accept that.”
He also said that the government would take back any land already allocated to individuals or organisations without any structure thereon.
“If your father has done that, sorry. If your mother has done that, sorry. There is nothing I can do, it will go down. And those the government has allocated land to and they refused to develop it, and they have become land speculators, the land is gone.

“I want to revoke them. I don’t understand how the government would give you land to develop, then you keep the land. The land that you bought for N200,000, you are now looking for someone who would buy it for N2 billion, who does that. We will get back our land and give it to those who want to develop. And you must sign and develop it at so and so time.
“So, if you are part of those who have been given such land, it will come back to us. Those of you who also fail to pay your ground rents, non payment of ground rents is a breach of covenants. I don’t need to write you to pay. Be it banks, big man. I will not be tired to revoke. That is why I am where.”
