Rev. John Ntim Fordjour has criticised the handling of Salomey Awiti Bafoh’s case, questioning why the Criminal Investigations Department publicly presented content linked to Ghana Jollof while, in his view, failing to give similar attention to other controversial online commentators.

The Assin South MP raised the issue during an exchange with Newsfile host Samson Lardy Anyenini, focusing particularly on the police press conference on the case.

“It is so shameful for the CID director, very upset and hypocritical of her to play the video of Ghana Jollof and fail to play the video of Kevin Taylor and the others,” he said.

Ntim Fordjour also questioned the circumstances under which Bafoh was arrested, describing her as a mother of four young children.

He said she was taken from her home about 400 kilometres from Accra and alleged that she was denied access to her lawyers.

“Salomey, a mother of four young kids, abducted and extracted from her home 400 kilometres away from the capital to be kept, denied access to her lawyers,” he said.

The MP said his concern was not that the police should ignore alleged offences connected to Ghana Jollof, but that similar conduct should be examined across the board.

He asked how many people had circulated material that could potentially fall under the law on false publications without being arrested or questioned.

“How many people in this country have circulated and keep circulating offensive, false publication and contents that are offensive conduct of hate speech and false publication affronting section 208 of the criminal and other offenses act and are still and have not been arrested and have not been questioned?” he asked.

Ntim Fordjour’s comments came as Salomey faced proceedings over her links to Ghana Jollof.

Police have said she allegedly helped distribute content associated with the account.
