X users in Nigeria must have seen Elon’, ‘Twitter Blue’ or ‘Twitter NG’ at the top of the trends table of the microblogging platform today. The word on the street is that X has approved payments for many Nigerian Twitter Blue subscribers.
FIJ had reported how X (formerly known as Twitter) announced its plan to pay its subscribed users through its Creator Ads Revenue Sharing programme on July 13.
Nigerian Twitter influencers made hundreds of posts praising X’s owner Elon Musk and claiming payment on Tuesday.

FIJ found that many of these influencers simply reproduced pictures of payments in order to push traffic or gain more engagements.
“Woke up to receive alert. Thank you Elon,” @abazwhyllzz tweeted on Wednesday morning.
“People who tweet 24/7 will no longer be considered jobless thanks to Elon Musk,” @MrBlackOG, another Twitter Blue subscriber, tweeted.
Although many Twitter Blue subscribers claimed X had paid them, some of these subscribers either chose to keep the exact amount a secret or used the same picture in their posts.
FIJ saw at least five users who thanked Musk and claimed they were paid sharing the same picture with the same proof of payment.
Another inconsistency FIJ noticed in the posts claiming receipt of the Creator Ads Revenue Sharing payments was that they came from users not subscribed to Twitter Blue.
X users who had no verification badges claimed they received payments. Though FIJ understands that X users who subscribed to Twitter Blue can hide their verification badges, many of those claiming to have got payment simply reused the same pictures.

Content creators will be able to independently register for this monetisation feature, but there are a few criteria.
X offers its users different monetisation options, and the Creative Ads Revenue Sharing programme is one.

Users have to meet specific conditions before they can sign up for the Creative Ads Revenue Sharing programme.
First, the user must have an active Stripe payments account. This is very important because all payments go to a Stripe-linked account only. Next, the user must be subscribed to Twitter Blue or Verified Organisation.
The user must have at least 5 million monthly impressions in three consecutive months.
Finally, the user must meet X’s Creator Monetisation Standards. Once all these criteria are met, the user can proceed with application.
Creators were encouraged to tap on ‘Professional Tools’ and then ‘Monetisation’ on X to apply by the end of July.
FIJ monitored X earners and found that there were no limits to how much creators could earn.
