The re-election of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, is facing two separate legal challenges after the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party filed petitions at the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.
The tribunal formally commenced the process on Monday by displaying the two petitions on the notice board of its secretariat in Osogbo, paving the way for further legal proceedings over the August 15 governorship election.
The Secretary of the tribunal, Pefe Belemore, had earlier confirmed that petitions challenging the outcome of the election had been filed and said the required notices would be displayed before noon on Monday.
The APC petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/01/2026, was filed by the party’s governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, against Adeleke, the Accord Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The PDP’s petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/02/2026, was filed by Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola against Adeleke, INEC and the Accord Party.
The development marks the formal beginning of the tribunal process to determine the legal challenges to the election that returned Adeleke for another term.
Officials of the tribunal secretariat were present at the tribunal on Monday as preparations were made for the commencement of proceedings.
With the petitions now formally displayed, the next stage is expected to include the service of relevant court processes on the parties before the substantive hearing of the cases.
Adeleke was declared the winner of the August 15 election by INEC, defeating Oyebamiji and other candidates in the contest.
The tribunal will now consider the claims contained in the two petitions and the responses of the respondents as the legal battle over the election outcome begins.
