Dr. Adedeji Adeleke, the billionaire businessman and father of Afrobeats star Davido, shared a powerful testimony detailing how his absolute reliance on God salvaged his $2 billion, 1,250-megawatt thermal power plant project from a targeted government sabotage.
He disclosed this experience during a presentation as a layperson at the Seventh-day Adventist Church’s General Conference Annual Council in Maryland, USA.
The Confrontation and Permit Denial
While developing the power plant under his company, Pacific Energy, Dr. Adeleke faced massive bureaucratic resistance. Despite investing significant initial capital into the design and preliminary phases alongside his Chinese engineering partners, a high-ranking government official explicitly denied their environmental permit.
According to Adeleke, the official looked him in the face and vowed that the project “would never see the light of day”.
A Silent Rejection of the Threat
Instead of panicking or arguing, Dr. Adeleke relied heavily on his Christian faith. He later recounted his internal thoughts during that exact moment:
“While he was saying that, I was saying in my mind that this guy is talking as if he is God… Because he is not God, whatever he is saying is null and void.”

Though he left the meeting disappointed and his Chinese partners became highly anxious about the $2 billion price tag, Adeleke chose not to look for political leverage. Instead, he took the issue directly to God in prayer, particularly focusing his intentions during the Sabbath.
The Miraculous Turnaround
The breakthrough came just one week later without any human intervention from Adeleke’s team.
  • The Call: On a Wednesday, Adeleke received an unexpected call from the Ministry of Power requesting his presence.
  • The Resolution: Upon arrival at the minister’s office, he was unexpectedly handed his approved environmental permit.
  • The Divine Intervention: When Adeleke inquired why the permit was suddenly ready and bypasses the previous office, an official revealed that the specific government official who had vowed to block the multi-billion dollar project had suddenly fallen severely ill and had been flown to Germany for medical treatment.

Project Impact & Current Status
Following the resolution of the permit crisis, construction moved ahead despite further hurdles like a $5 million loss due to local copper thieves sabotaging the turbines.
As detailed across various reports, including coverage by The Cable and Punch Newspaper, the massive gas-fired power facility located in Ajebamidele, Ondo State, is fully complete and awaiting final connection to the national gas grid.
Already generating roughly 15% of Nigeria’s grid electricity through his existing assets, Dr. Adeleke’s new 1,250MW facility stands as the largest privately owned thermal power plant in the country. He attributes its ultimate physical reality entirely to the divine intervention that overrode human opposition
