The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has approved 150 as the minimum cut-off mark for admission into universities and colleges of nursing for the 2026 academic session.
The board also retained 100 as the minimum score for admission into polytechnics and monotechnics nationwide.
The resolutions were reached on Monday during the 2026 Policy Meeting on Admissions into Tertiary Institutions held in Abuja.
Speaking at the meeting, the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, who presided over the session, said the approved benchmarks were the least acceptable requirements for admission and must be complied with by all institutions.
He stressed that candidates seeking admission must satisfy the prescribed standards.
Stakeholders at the meeting also agreed on timelines for concluding the 2026 admission process across tertiary institutions.
Under the arrangement, public universities are expected to complete admissions on or before Oct. 31, 2026, while private universities have until Nov. 30, 2026, to conclude theirs.
Polytechnics, monotechnics and colleges of education are to round off their admission exercises not later than Dec. 31, 2026.
In his remarks, the Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, directed institutions to strictly adhere to the approved admission schedule.
Oloyede warned that once the deadline for each category expires, any institution that failed to conclude its admission exrcise would no longer have access to candidates for that session.
He also approved that successful candidates must accept their admission offers within four weeks, noting that failure to accept admission within the stipulated period would lead to withdrawal of such offers.
He noted that affected candidates may become ineligible for further admission consideration in that session.
The registrar added that the policy was aimed at ensuring fairness, transparency and timely completion of admissions across all tertiary institutions in the country.
