A member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State, Mr. Afuye Idowu, has petitioned the party’s National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, calling for the disqualification of Senator Cyril Fasuyi from the forthcoming Ekiti North Senatorial District primary elections.
In a petition dated May 2, 2026, and addressed to the APC national secretariat in Abuja, Idowu alleged that Fasuyi’s performance in the Senate over the past three years has been below expectations and inconsistent with the party’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.”
According to the petitioner, the senator has not sponsored any significant legislation or contributed meaningfully to debates on the floor of the National Assembly, thereby leaving the district without effective representation.
Idowu also accused Fasuyi of violating his fundamental rights, alleging that the lawmaker reacted negatively to a public review he conducted in 2025 on the performance of elected officials. He claimed that the senator allegedly deployed individuals to harass him following the publication of his assessment.
The petitioner further alleged that Fasuyi instigated his arrest by officers of the Rapid Response Squad of the Ekiti State Police Command on July 31, 2025, over what he described as false allegations. He said he was detained and later remanded in custody for 14 days before being released after the charges against him were withdrawn due to lack of evidence.
Idowu argued that only candidates who align with the reform agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should be allowed to contest in the party’s primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He urged the APC leadership to ensure that “competent and credible aspirants” emerge as candidates, stressing that Fasuyi, based on his assessment, does not deserve to be on the ballot.
Copies of the petition were also sent to the APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, and the chairman of the party’s senatorial primary elections screening committee.
Efforts to reach Senator Fasuyi for comments on the allegations were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
