FIFA has dismissed a petition filed by the Nigeria Football Federation challenging the eligibility of players used by the DR Congo in their 2026 FIFA World Cup play-off clash.

The NFF had raised concerns over alleged irregularities in the issuance of passports to certain DR Congo players, suggesting possible violations that could have affected their eligibility for the match.

The fixture, played at the Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat on November 16, 2025, served as the final of the African playoffs.

DR Congo emerged victorious after a dramatic penalty shootout, following a 1–1 draw after regulation and extra time.

Despite FIFA’s decision to reject the petition, the NFF has made it clear it will not back down.

NFF General Secretary, Mohammed Sanusi told Brila.net that the federation has already initiated an appeal process.

“We have received the decision of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee on our petition, but we are not satisfied with the decision, which rejected our petition. I want to assure Nigerians that the NFF has immediately commenced the process of appealing the decision.”

The case is now expected to be taken to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), where Nigeria will seek a review of FIFA’s ruling.

With tensions rising and legal proceedings underway, more developments are anticipated in the coming days as the situation unfolds.
