The Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of a freelance Journalist and chairman of the Bauchi Media Integrity Group, Mallam Jamilu Barau.
A statement issued by the Governor’s SSA on communication, Abdulwahab Muhammad indicated that Mallam Barau passed away at the ATBUTH, Bauchi, after a brief illness.
“This comes shortly after the state lost 2 other Journalists in a tragic accident earlier in February, bringing the total number of Journalists who have died in the state in within weeks to 3,” the statement said.
Governor Bala Mohammed described the deceased as humble, dedicated, and committed to truth and responsible journalism.
He extended heartfelt condolences to the family, Bauchi Council of the NUJ, members of the Bauchi Media Integrity Group, and the entire Media community for the lose.
“The passing of these dedicated media professionals within just a short period is deeply painful. Bauchi State has lost voices that contributed immensely to responsible journalism and public discourse,” the Governor said.
It would be recalled that the late Channels Television cameraman, Kani Ben, and that of the Bauchi State Television Authority, Kabiru Ahmed Ilelah, lost their lives at the ATBUTH, Bauchi, after being involved in a road crash, along with 11 other Journalists, in Alkaleri LGA of Bauchi State, while covering the NEDC projects.
