Nigerian music legend Innocent “2Baba” Idibia has publicly denounced a petition filed by his family against his wife, Natasha Osawaru, a member of the Edo State House of Assembly. In an emotional video shared on the 2Baba House Instagram page, the 50-year-old singer dismissed the allegations as false and harmful, revealing the severe personal toll the controversy has taken on him and his spouse.
The drama unfolded after 2Baba’s family petitioned Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun, calling for an investigation into claims against Osawaru. The document accuses her of bigamy alleging she married 2Baba before his divorce from estranged wife Annie Idibia was finalized along with physical assault, financial misappropriation, and introducing the singer to harmful substances. The family argued that her actions have caused their son “emotional distress, financial loss, and reputational damage.”
This isn’t the first time 2Baba’s family has intervened in his personal life; similar concerns were raised during his marriage to Annie Idibia.
In the video, the “African Queen” hitmaker appeared visibly distraught, urging his family to back off. “This whole thing has gotten dangerously out of hand,” he said. “I’m a grown man, and I believe I have the right to be whoever I want to be. My family has, in trying to say they want to save me, actually destroyed me. And they have killed somebody’s daughter’s character.”
2Baba emphasized that marital quarrels are normal “Please tell me who doesn’t have to quarrel with their spouse from time to time” but insisted the situation has escalated beyond reason. He highlighted his recent public appearances, including a performance in Abuja attended by thousands, as proof of his well-being. “How can you say you’re trying to save somebody’s life? And then you’re messing my life up.”
The singer revealed a darker side to the backlash: Osawaru is now receiving daily death threats. “Natasha is getting death threats right now… It’s my whole family, my brothers. This is so unacceptable,” he stated, drawing parallels to past family interference with Annie. “We all have our differences… However, this has become so dangerous right now. It has become so dangerous. It’s not funny anymore.”
2Baba described the allegations as “fabricated lies” amplified by former staff in interviews, equating them to “killing someone.” He vowed to speak out more in the coming days: “In the next couple of days, I’m going to really speak up and say a whole lot of things that I’ve been quiet about. I’m not going to be quiet about this anymore.”
Wrapping up his appeal, 2Baba directly addressed those issuing threats and his family: “All the people sending death threats, please, stop it. We are fine… Please, I want people to understand and respect this fact… And please, I want to tell my family, stay out of my private and personal life. Just let me be with who I want to be with.” He painted a picture of devastation, saying, “You say you’re helping me, but you’re killing me. You’re killing us.”
The couple’s relationship has been under intense scrutiny since going public. Tensions boiled over during an Instagram Live session with media personality Daddy Freeze, where a scuffle between 2Baba and Osawaru went viral. Adding fuel to the fire, footage emerged of 2Baba allegedly being arrested in the United Kingdom following an altercation with the lawmaker. In response, the singer posted a desperate Instagram Story on Wednesday: “Help me,” sparking widespread concern among fans.
