We are bringing to your attention some recent and alarming security incidents that have taken place in residential estates, underscoring the urgent need for heightened vigilance.
In the past few days, two separate reports have emerged from residents whose vehicles were vandalized within their compounds. The perpetrators— armed and numbering at least four— gained access by posing as police or military operatives, often under the guise of conducting investigations (e.g., from NDLEA or the Police).
Their Modus Operandi:
- They arrive in the early hours of the morning (typically around 3:00 to 4:00 AM).
- They claim to be on official duty and instruct guards to open the gates.
- The security guards, fearing harm, comply, especially when the criminals cock their weapons to intimidate.
- Once inside, they order guards to lie down, then proceed to dismantle and strip vehicles of parts and valuables.
These incidents are highly coordinated and suggest deliberate targeting. To safeguard your home, vehicle, and family, we urge you to take the following preventive measures:
Important Security Instructions
- Collect all gate keys from your security guards at night to prevent unauthorized access.
- Instruct guards to demand valid identification and verify credentials before allowing access to anyone claiming to be from a law enforcement agency.
- Do not permit entry at odd hours (especially during the night) unless prior verification has been made with local police or security authorities.
- Ensure electric fencing and intruder alarms are fully functional to deter break-ins and signal unauthorized access.
- Install or reinforce CCTV surveillance, especially at entry/exit points, to help monitor and record any suspicious activities.
We strongly encourage all residents and facility managers to report any unusual activity to the nearest police station.
Stay safe and vigilant.
Warm regards,
