The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Benin Branch — fondly known as the Lion Bar — has conferred the honorary title of Ambassador of Credible Justice (ACJ) on the Chief Judge of Edo State, Hon. Justice Daniel Iyobosa Okungbowa, CJ.
The honour was bestowed during a gala night held as part of the branch’s 2025 Law Week, which concluded on Friday, July 18, 2025. The event, organised under the leadership of Branch Chairman, Idemudia Osifo Esq., celebrated excellence in the judiciary and the enduring partnership between the Bar and the Bench.
In a citation read before the conferment, former Branch Chairman Pius Oiwoh Esq. praised Justice Okungbowa as a fearless jurist who has consistently dispensed justice without fear or favour, affection or ill will. He recalled the Chief Judge’s remarkable record as a distinguished member of the Bar prior to his elevation to the Bench, noting that his accessibility and continued support for the Lion Bar are deeply appreciated.
“His Lordship has always answered the call of the Bar, lending his wisdom and presence at critical engagements. He exemplifies the ideal of justice with integrity,” Oiwoh stated.
In his response, the Chief Judge expressed deep appreciation to the Lion Bar for the honour. In a light-hearted remark, he said, “I was part of the Lion Bar before I was borrowed to the Bench,” drawing laughter and applause from the audience.
The atmosphere turned celebratory as members of the Bar sang a chorus in praise of the Chief Judge, chanting: “Na our CJ be this o, we no get another one, na our CJ be this o, eh!”
