NO fewer than 3,000 pregnant women in Edo State have benefited from a healthcare initiative organised by HACEY Health Initiative with support from Access Corporation.

The programme which was held under the Project Agbebi scheme of HACEY aims to reduce the incidence of pregnancy-related deaths and complications by educating traditional birth attendants in rural communities and equipping them to provide adequate and right services.

Speaking at the event held at the Ekae Primary Health Centre, Benin City, representative of HACEY, Ehichoya Osato said the project operated simultaneously in three other states and the beneficiaries were given birthing kits.

According to her, “The primary objective of this initiative is to empower women with knowledge on maintaining optimal health before, during, and after pregnancy.”
