A telecommunications engineer residing in Abuja has lodged a complaint against Kaniz Construction Limited, a real estate firm, claiming they refused to refund his N1.8 million.
According to the engineer who wished to remain anonymous, he withdrew from a business deal with the real estate company due to their lack of substantial progress on his subscription.
This customer said the back and forth with Kaniz Construction Limited began when he subscribed for one of their two-bedroom apartments through the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) in Abuja in the first quarter of 2022.

After he authorised the FHA to release N1.8 million to Kaniz Construction Company on March 15, 2022, he said he expected progress on his future property, having paid 10.9 percent but he didn’t see any meaningful progress after some months.
“After waiting for over five months without any progress, I decided to make a refund request. I did this with the thought that I could request a refund if I wanted it,” the engineer told FIJ.

“I spoke to the FHA contact I knew and told him I wanted a refund. I also called the Kaniz contractor on my site and told him I wanted a refund. He said I could get that within a month if I wrote a request letter, which I did.”
The engineer said he took the written letter, which contained his request for the N1.8 million he earlier paid as a down payment for a N16.9 million property, to the contractor’s office where it was accepted in November 2022.
According to the engineer, the request for a refund marked the peak of his ordeal with Kaniz Construction Limited.
“I called the Kaniz contractor several times but it yielded no positive outcome. Although my FHA contact asked me to give the contractor some time, I could not reach the contractor for the most part,” he lamented.

“The contractor stopped taking my calls afterwards. I had to write several letters to the FHA and even to the contractor directly but to no avail. I have tried every means to get my money back but they haven’t still refunded.”
When FIJ called Kaniz Construction Limited, the company asked this reporter to send them details about the source.
FIJ sent these details immediately after the call ended, but further calls after the first remained unanswered at press time.
